The Creatures of Crystalvale

The world of Crystalvale is inhabited by extraordinary creatures, born and transformed by the energy of the mysterious Crystals brought by Caelcryx.

Over the centuries, flora, fauna, and even the technological remains of the old world have come into contact with this energy, giving rise to new forms of life. Some have become intelligent and built Communities, others continue to live in the wild, while a few legendary creatures have become the subject of myths and tales passed down throughout Crystalvale.

From the gigantic Leviathan that roam the depths to the peaceful Kurma, and characters such as Ulysses, Rubelia, Kelvin, and Bulbo, every creature has its own story and a unique connection to the Crystals.

Discover the inhabitants of Crystalvale and get to know the creatures that bring the world of Crystal Echoes to life.

“When you walk through a forest at night, never trust your eyes… only your hearing. A Leon could always be lurking nearby.”
— From The Proverbs of Old Katerina

The Leon is a formidable predator that silently roams the woods and forests of Crystalvale. Its imposing size makes it easy to spot in daylight, forcing it to hunt almost exclusively at night, when darkness becomes its greatest ally. Moving through the shadows, it can conceal itself with surprising effectiveness, using silence and the cover of night to approach its prey.

Equipped with 360-degree peripheral vision and a long prehensile tongue, the Leon can catch even the smallest and most elusive prey with unsettling precision. It has no particular dietary preferences and can feed on almost anything, though it seems especially fond of crystal fruits, rich in energy, that grow only in the depths of the oldest forests.

Its hunger, however, is almost impossible to satisfy. The Leon grows continuously and uncontrollably, fueled by its own voracious appetite. The more it feeds, the larger its body becomes, making it increasingly powerful, but also increasingly unstable.

For this reason, it is considered impossible to tame or keep under control. Legends tell of Leons so massive that they shake the undergrowth as they pass… yet so silent that they can vanish without leaving a trace.

“I love fishing, I love listening to music… and even more, I love fishing while listening to music.”
Geko is a carefree and irresistibly charming creature. Always wearing a smile and whistling a tune between his teeth, he is a born prankster, ready to befriend anyone who shares his two greatest passions: music and fishing.

The boldest fishermen use small Crystals as bait, capable of attracting ever larger and juicier fish. But it is an art that requires caution: if the Crystal is too large, too pure, or too bright… it might attract something far less friendly as well.

He is certainly not known for his cleverness. In fact, his naivety often gets him into trouble, but it is hard to stay mad at him. His genuine nature wins everyone over. For Geko, fishing is more than just a pastime: it is an art passed down through generations, a true family tradition that blends patience, experience, and a touch of magic.

These colossal and mythical creatures have inhabited the darkest depths of Crystalvale for centuries. Leviathans are relentless and voracious predators, ready to devour any living creature that crosses their path. They spend most of their lives hidden in the ocean depths, making encounters with them extremely rare—and often fatal.

Because of their elusive nature, Leviathans have filled legends, horror stories, and bedtime tales used to frighten children for generations. But behind every myth lies a truth, and their existence is anything but symbolic.

They never sleep. And they never stop moving. They are condemned to perpetual motion by a strange quirk of nature: a long lure extends from their forehead, with a Crystal embedded at its tip. The light it emits draws them irresistibly toward it, creating a kind of biological paradox that dooms them to chase their own glow forever, like a donkey following a carrot.

This constant movement, combined with their colossal size, causes them to consume enormous amounts of energy, making them extremely dangerous when hunger takes hold. At such times, they do not hesitate to rise into shallower waters, briefly abandoning the depths to hunt with brutal force and ferocity.

Leviathans are more than mere creatures of the ocean. They are living legends, eternal forces of hunger and light that roam the depths like colossal ghosts… and that no one, not even Crystalvale’s most experienced sailors, would ever wish to encounter.

“The Nameless One.”
That is what the communities of Crystalvale call him.

No one knows where he comes from, nor what his true face looks like. He does not speak or communicate… except through silent gestures and meaningful glances. A plague doctor’s mask hides his face, making him seem unsettling and mysterious at first sight. But those who meet him soon discover that Ulysses is the exact opposite of what he appears to be: a kind, quiet, and endlessly caring creature.

Ulysses tirelessly travels the paths of Crystalvale, moving from village to village to offer his care to anyone in need. His knowledge of botany, alchemy, and chemistry is deep and precise, the result of years of solitary study and experimentation. In different corners of the continent, he has set up small hidden laboratories where he researches the effects of the Crystals on flora, fauna… and perhaps even on himself.

His heavy build, marked by strange mutations, makes his movements slow and his steps clumsy. But he is never truly alone: the people of Crystalvale are often the ones who help him on his journey, offering transportation, hospitality, and friendship in return for his quiet but invaluable support.

“When your home is behind you… then the whole world can only lie ahead.”

He loves reading stories about distant lands and collecting pins, which he proudly wears on his chest like travel trophies and precious keepsakes. With his backpack always on his shoulders and his shoes almost always untied—a chronic oversight that often sends him tumbling—Bulbo explores the world with the carefree spirit of someone whose head is in the clouds… and whose heart is full of dreams.

Bulbo is a tireless traveler, a small creature with a big heart and eyes always fixed on the horizon. He wanders without a specific destination, exploring every corner of Crystalvale in search of wonder. And whenever he discovers something new—a breathtaking landscape, a curious object, or even a simple act of kindness—the Crystal on his head shines so brightly that it can be seen from miles away.

Kind, enthusiastic, and a little absent-minded, Bulbo is the kind of creature who turns every encounter into a smile and every step into an adventure. If you meet him along the way, stop and say hello: he’ll be happy to hear your story… and perhaps add you to his collection as a brand-new pin.

Spotting a Silvia is always considered a sign of good luck. These small and agile creatures are rare and difficult to encounter, as they move silently through the undergrowth in search of insects and berries, blending perfectly into the surrounding vegetation. They prefer lush woodlands filled with bushes, where their fur can merge with the environment and make them almost invisible.

During the day, the Crystals in their horns remain dull, allowing them to hunt undisturbed. At night, however, they seek out clearings bathed in moonlight. The moon’s rays react with the Crystals in their horns, causing them to glow with a soft light that grants them strength and agility for the hours ahead.

In the days immediately following a full moon, the Silvia retreat to rest, sleeping deeply throughout the day. It is during these vulnerable moments that they can sometimes be seen resting peacefully, sheltered beneath the shade of the forest.

For this very reason, the communities of Crystalvale protect them with great care, seeing them not only as bringers of good fortune, but above all as living symbols of the health and balance of the forests they inhabit.

“Se per fortuna vedi una Silvia, non disturbarla: il suo sonno protegge gli alberi e le piante intorno a te.”
Enciclopedia delle creature di Crystalvale, Ulisse

“Earthquakes don’t exist… they’re just the footsteps of a Kurma in the distance.”

The Kurma are the most colossal creatures in all of Crystalvale. Their slow and majestic movements make the الأرض tremble, uproot ancient trees, and alter the course of rivers. Enormous Crystals grow upon their vast shells, and over time they have completely transformed the surrounding vegetation: the leaves of the trees, changed by the influence of the Crystals, have evolved into thin crystalline blades that, as the creature passes, fall like shimmering rain, reflecting the light in a thousand hues.

This material is not only fascinating: it is incredibly durable and possesses unique optical properties. The Ferrambrati, along with other advanced civilizations of Crystalvale, use it as a key material for crafting lenses, telescopes, and sophisticated technologies.

The Kurma are so immense that an entire ecosystem has developed upon their backs: mosses, flowers, plants, and even tiny creatures, all transformed in strange and fascinating ways. No one has ever managed to fully climb a Kurma, and whatever lies upon its back remains shrouded in mystery—fueling fairy tales, legends, and bedtime stories passed down from generation to generation.

Although their passage leaves deep chasms in their wake, the Kurma are not dangerous by nature. They are fully aware of their immense size and, whenever possible, carefully avoid inhabited settlements. After all, it is difficult not to notice a Kurma approaching: the air trembles, the ground pulses, and a vast shadow moves across the horizon.

During their slow journey, the mosses and lichens covering their legs break away and fall to the ground, filling the chasms left behind and enriching the soil. These plants, infused with crystalline energy, accelerate the regrowth of vegetation, turning the Kurma into a true “living change of season.”

To sustain themselves, they neither hunt nor forage. They live on sunlight, captured by the crystalline foliage growing on their backs and transformed into energy through an ancient form of photosynthesis. Immense, silent, and slow, the Kurma are more than mere creatures: they are living monuments to the cycle of nature.

“An engineer who doesn’t know the iron–carbon diagram by heart is like a dragonfly that forgets how to fly: technically possible, but morally unacceptable.”

Kelvin spends his days shut away in his laboratory, where sunlight is little more than a distant memory. His mind is focused on a single ambitious goal: to build the largest, most powerful, and most spectacular Mecha in all of Crystalvale.

His knowledge of engineering and robotics is unmatched, to the point that he is considered the true guru of automation throughout the world. Every day, hordes of students knock on his door, hoping to learn even a fraction of his genius. Yet his inventions are never written down on parchment or in codes: they live entirely in his mind, ever-changing and brilliant, like the blueprints of a dream in constant evolution.

Kelvin gives dozens of lessons every day, often without ever stopping his work. In fact, he gladly takes advantage of his students’ presence, asking them to hand him tools, solder circuits, or help lift heavy components. His laboratory is a kind of organized chaos: a maze of gears, screws, unfinished blueprints, and forgotten prototypes, where only he knows how to find his way around. Every corner hides a mystery, every piece tells a story—and some of those stories have, over time, become true legends.

“Across the meadow, warm with sun and light,
the Beetle marches on with all his might.
Copper-red, all gleaming, strong and bright,
he rolls a crystal, polished smooth and right.

“Onward, my ruby, my perfect shining sphere,
so smooth, so lovely, so flawless and clear!
I roll you proudly wherever I may go,
the buzzing pride of every path I know!”

He hops through the grass with elegant turns,
dodging puddles and ants as the sunlight burns.
“My name is Sterco, I’m gentle but clever,
and this crystal of mine is my finest treasure!”

Through mud and laughter, past butterflies bright,
he rolls down the valley with pure delight.
An ordinary insect? Oh, surely not so!
He’s the Ruby King, wherever he may go.”

From “The Adventures of Great Dung, the Scarlet Knight”

“Hey there, little creature of Crystalvale. Today is your lucky day, because you have the honor of speaking with yours truly: the great, gorgeous, incomparable, radiant, muscular, legendary, formidable, dazzling, magnetic, spectacular, majestic, and brilliant Dung! Oh, and this is Ruby. She doesn’t talk much—she’s shy—but once she gets attached to someone, she might say a word or two.”

“What’s that? You don’t know me? Impossible! I’m the most famous one here in Crystalvale, and everyone knows all about my feats and adventures! Look, Ruby even wrote a book about them! Of course, there are still plenty of blank pages waiting to be filled. Curious to find out what will be written on them? Well then, follow me! A new adventure is always just around the corner!”

The Byte are surprisingly intelligent creatures, despite what their appearance might suggest. Playful and tireless, they love rolling around in the mud and diving into the pools of the open-air junkyards scattered across Crystalvale. Their favorite pastime? Digging through piles of scrap in search of Crystals, drawn to the Echo they emit, which they feed on to recharge their energy.

Gifted with an exceptional sense of smell, the Byte are often tamed by the Ferrambrati, who use them to track down Crystals hidden in the most remote areas. However, their nature makes them relentless hunters: they consume so much energy that they are forced to feed constantly, trapped in a frantic and unstoppable cycle.

It is no coincidence that the Greenshards call them “the sharks of the junkyards.” And it is not uncommon to come across their exhausted, lifeless bodies far from the scrapyards, abandoned when luck has failed them and they have been unable to find even a single fragment of Crystal.

They call him “the Dream Eater.” A mysterious, almost dreamlike entity that only a handful of creatures in Crystalvale have had the honor… or the misfortune, of encountering. Yumenix is a scaleless dragon, a solitary creature that silently wanders through the valleys and mists of Crystalvale, like a shadow forgotten by time.

His symbiosis with the Crystals runs so deep that it has made him almost godlike. Over the centuries, prolonged exposure to the pure energy of the stones has consumed his armor of scales, leaving his body bare and translucent, yet filled with boundless power. His now-ethereal skin becomes visible only on nights of the full moon, when it reflects the moonlight in a violet glow.

Catching even a glimpse of him is nearly impossible. But those unfortunate enough to meet his gaze claim that they never dreamed again. It is said that, with a single look, Yumenix devours the deepest dreams and desires of the soul, leaving behind a silent and irreparable emptiness in anyone who has seen him.

“I am the Swarm, and the Swarm is me.”

Rubelia was one of the first creatures to come into contact with the extraordinary energy of the Crystals. Once a simple queen bee, she grew beyond all imagination, transforming into a majestic creature—a true empress.

Her worker bees, known as Rozee, were exposed to shards of Crystal that rained down from the Comet and began producing the legendary Red Honey: a mystical substance, similar to ambrosia, capable of granting energy, vitality… and even immortality. By feeding their queen with this extraordinary gift, the bees elevated her to an almost divine form.

Over time, Rubelia and her swarm became a single entity. The Crystals, growing upon their bodies like living extensions, allowed them to form a profound symbiosis, bound together by the very Echo of crystalline energy.

Today, Rubelia has dwelled in Crystalvale for centuries, shrouded in an aura of mystery. She rarely interacts with other creatures, but on rare and solemn occasions, she grants a chosen few the honor of tasting a single drop of her Red Honey.

The Swarm, also known as the Red Sea because of the striking effect it creates when moving, lives solely for her. Every Rozea is a devoted soldier, ready to sacrifice herself for her Empress. Their lives are short, creating a constant cycle of young and powerful warriors.

Through her Crystal Crown, Rubelia exerts absolute control over the Swarm, bound to it in a deep and unbroken symbiosis.

Calya is a small and fragile creature, born from the symbiosis between nature and the Crystals.
She lives deep within the undergrowth, hidden among the lowest and dampest leaves, and appears only on rare and special days, when rain has fallen during the night and the morning sun filters through the branches, slowly warming every blade of grass.
Only then, among drops of dew and golden rays of light, do the Calya quietly emerge, unfolding their petals and gratefully absorbing the sunlight.

The birth of a new Calya is an enchanting event. It happens when a Crystal fragment from one of a Kurma’s leaves gently falls inside a calla lily and a spring rain softly envelops it. Awakened by water and life, the crystalline energy begins to pulse like an arcane heartbeat, and from that flower a new Calia takes shape, ready to become part of the world of Crystalvale.

In the abandoned wastelands of Crystalvale, where rusted metal piles up into mountains and rain turns junkyards into shimmering swamps, a peculiar species makes its home: the S-NAIL. Tiny and ravenous snails, they emerge only on rainy days, when the moisture protects them and the sun cannot harm their delicate membranes.

Their hunger for crystals drives them to gather in groups, merging their soft, slimy bodies with metal scraps, machine fragments, and even the remains of old automatons.

The S-NAIL wander through the junkyards and beyond in search of new fragments. Like parasites, they use scraps of metal as a means of locomotion, taking advantage of the few moments of moisture these lands receive. They are neither entirely creature nor entirely machine, but something new: a hybrid of nature and corrupted technology, living in perfect symbiosis within the junkyards of Crystalvale.

Among the quiet shadows of Crystalvale lives Morph, an enigmatic and elusive creature. With his slender body and crystalline horns glowing softly in the moonlight, he is known as the Keeper of Tales: the one who watches over the sleep of creatures and keeps alive the legends that shape the very heart of the world.

Traveling from village to village, he writes down and tells legends and bedtime stories to the curious creatures of Crystalvale. His words have the power to soothe anxious hearts and harmonize the Echoes of even the most restless creatures.

Those who encounter him during the night say they have found comfort in the sound of his faint voice, awakening with renewed strength and long-forgotten memories. Morph is a solitary, almost dreamlike creature: the keeper of the stories and dreams of those who inhabit these lands.

In the depths of a forgotten library, far from the eyes of the creatures of Crystalvale, sits Sophion, the Eternal Chronicler. No one knows who built him, whether he was created as a sentient machine by the Ferrambrati or as a spirit imprisoned within a metal body. What is certain is that, for centuries, his hand has never stopped writing.

Thanks to the energy of the Crystals embedded within his body, Sophion possesses a unique gift: he can witness every event in Crystalvale as it happens. Every beat of a wing, every clash, every spoken word is etched into his mind like ink upon parchment. With inhuman patience, he records everything without ever missing a detail, gathering the present drop by drop as the Keeper of Crystalvale’s history.

This power, however, is also his curse. Sophion cannot stop, nor can he rest. He lives in voluntary isolation, surrounded only by endless stacks of tomes and the scratching sound of his pen.

“I do not choose the words. The words choose me.”
